Fabrizio Mafessoni

About me

I am an evolutionary and computational biologist, currently Assistant Professor (Rtdb) at the University of Trieste.

My work has been focused on:

  • paleogenomics, particularly in the context of archaic hominins
  • population genomics
  • evolutionary modeling

Currently working on:

  • I am working on developing novel methods to leverage genomic data to quantify the value of genetic resources and biodiversity
  • Computational methods to link mutations and DNA repair mechanisms in the context of CRISPR
  • Ancient DNA from different regions of the world

In case you are interested in any of these topics just drop me a line! I am currently looking for students motivated to address global-scale biodiversity questions by leveraging large-scale comparative genomic datasets.

Teaching

  • “Evolutionary Biology” (6 CFU) for STB and STAN Bachelor students
  • “Computational Genomics” (6 CFU) for the Master in Functional Genomics.
